Carmilla Strayer

“ You are fiery, girl, smoldering. There must be a man on your mind… ”

– The Seamstress to Carmilla, TUT: Neoteric, Verse I

As a Singer of Song, Carmilla is a Consort whom trains to become the Voice of Prophecy, though there only exists one such woman at a time. The Singers are held in the highest regard among Pursuers, and it is Carmilla whom has shown the most promise in becoming the next Voice of the Song of Prophecy, but is as of yet unconfirmed. A fact for which her sister Strayer, Liliana, is jealous.

Though Carmilla is not particularly powerful for a Consort of the Vestiary, she is extremely intelligent and hungers for esoteric knowledge which is usually barred to Consorts, and, especially, Strayers. This trait draws her to Azaniah Strayer, whom she holds a desire for. Of course, such unions are forbidden by decree of the Council of Thirteen, not only because it is possible any given Strayer could be related, but because the Strayers as a whole are not permitted to propagate nor have intimate relationships with one another.

Alongside her sisters, Carmilla serves the Vestiary as most other Consorts by attending to the needs and desires of the Persecutors. This could entail nearly anything, and often falls into more base categories – such as the kind lauded by the Mistress of Consorts, Izabel Ethbaal – but it is not required of Consorts to perform such duties, and there does exist recourse in the Second Law for any woman whom finds a brother to be too forward.

Appearance

Carmilla is fairly tall, of an average build with moderate proportions, though in no way lacking, and she has a notably attractive face which causes her to stand out from her sisters. With a gently upturned nose, full lips, and proud chin she has a look that turns heads. However, she does not carry herself with any sort of exuberant confidence, rather she appears very approachable – unless you’re an outsider to the Vestiary. But, as if the universe itself were not content to allow something perfect to exist, during her Conjoining Carmilla was rendered completely hairless. To account for that loss, she wears wigs of copper, black, and red, and applies false eyebrows and lashes of a dark tone. Alongside those changes, the iris of her eyes were rendered a beautiful light shade of gray, nearly silver, and appear to be circumferenced by a black ring.

Biography

Born a Stayer sometime around the Pogrom, she is roughly twenty-two years of age. As all Strayers, the record of her parents were struck, and she was raised by the Vestiary Elders at the Pursuer Temple on Saturn. From their reports, she was said to have been a rambunctious girl, frequently given to fights and arguments. Likely due to the steep punishments she received in response, Carmilla’s demeaner became much more amenable as she entered into her teens.

During the Conjoining, which she underwent alongside her favored sister, Liliana Strayer, Carmilla was rendered completely hairless – much like her fellow Strayer brother, Azaniah. Due to this fact, Carmilla performs lengthy beauty rituals, often accompanied by the gossip of her sister, Liliana. Following the Conjoining, Carmilla showed aptitude to become the Voice of the Song of Prophecy. A rare, illustrious position held only by one Consort at a time. For this, she was made a Singer of Song, and studies all manner of avenues which cultivate her potential. In contrast, her capacity and more mundane practical skills suffer.

In her studies, Carmilla is known for being adept in book-knowledge. Although often in class, she is infamous for her daydreaming. How she manages to maintain high marks is as perplexing to her fellow sisters, as it is to her instructors. Most Consort are jealous of her rumored succession as the next Voice of the Song of Prophecy, especially given her aloof behavior while seated in class.
