Human Resources

Most commonly coded, seeded, incubated, and birthed by the Cyto Organics corporation, Human Resources (HRs) are genetically manufactured men and women. Often, HRs are designed to grow up quickly, and cease aging at a certain point. This is to ensure the consignee receives a maximum return on investment. However, HRs can be coded to any design specification, including weight, height, color, etc.

HRs differ from men and women in that they are incapable of complete autonomous function. If a Human Resource encounters something outside their programing, their ability to improvise is extremely limited, and often results in re-routing to known paths of choice, or completely freezing up. When HRs encounter events falling outside programing, they must first receive a signal from either an Ascendancy Controller, or from the Manufacturer to imaginatively respond. As such, their use is limited to controlled environments where Debtors could potentially assist.

However, in the case of a sufficiently coded HR, it is possible that they may behave indistinguishably from any given man or woman. These types are expensive to manufacture, but if the coder could calculate for a given situation, the HR may even outperform any man due to their often enhanced physical strength, speed, durability, and cognitive response.

This raises questions among some Debtors as to whether a Human Resource could potentially replace a real man or woman. Some have even claimed various famous people, and other high-profile individuals, have already been replaced or are entirely manufactured. The Cyto Organics corpo, and the Ascendancy itself, denies those allegations on the grounds that such an autonomous Human Resource is impossible with current technology.

Uses

Human Resources are rarely used in positions of physical labor, due to their high cost and inability to adapt to situations. HRs are used most heavily in the entertainment industry, and are increasingly replacing men and women in those fields. This includes positions in sports, singing, dancing, circus, stunt work, and both acting & news reporting.

Beside these, combat sports featuring Human Resources have brought a massive surge of viewership and attendance, due entirely to the wholesale and guilt-free slaughter of manufactured units. Thanks to this, combat sports have expanded into the most violent territories, including live-fire war games and historical re-enactments. Profits garnered from these events make hand-over-fist the amount of chiun it costs to produce the units sacrificed.

As Human Resources can be made to appear indistinguishable from a real individual, they also see use in the darker elements of society. Gangs, and various organizations often steal and re-program HRs for situations where anonymity, a lack of morals, or a disposable “fall-guy” is required. This mostly involves crime, but more frequently they are being used in the flesh market, such as within the Red Light Veneers on the Merchant Ring, to facilitate certain requested desires of some people – often at high cost.
