“ Wishing upon a star won’t do anything for you, and it certainly isn’t going to make any dreams come true. ”
– Tarrigan, TUT: Neoteric, Verse I
A dislikable man, Tarrigan Krause is infamous for his disagreeable manner and prodigious knowledge in all fields scientific and experimental.
Despite his poor manners and general rudeness, Krause is known for getting things done. He is both held in renown and infamy by veteran researchers in the spheres of technological development. Those new to the field are often greatly upset when he inevitably, usually immediately, refers to them as “ignorant,” “moronic,” or otherwise as being a nuisance or in his way. To say the least, Krause is a man who’s personality constitutes an acquired taste – one that requires much will in continued forced interactions.
Setting aside his abrasive traits, it is thanks to him that both the OEA and the common debtor enjoy not only great amenities which serve to entertain and amaze, but also benefit from the core technologies which form the backbone of Ascendancy society.
Appearance
Tarrigan Krause overall look consists of features as sharp as his temperament. These highlighted by a long, thin face, chin, and nose. He is tall, slim, but that height is hindered by a slouched neck and shoulders from countless hours studying over labs, formulations, and tables. His wild, unkempt, wiry hair was once blond but is now mostly gray. Not to disappoint, his eyebrows are similarly unkempt, and there is visible hair sticking out from the nose and ears. He keeps his face shaven by means of a laser scrubber, which has the unfortunate side effect of reddening the skin from the minor burns incurred by careless handling.
Biography
An only child of a poor family, he was born in the year 2210. His parents died when he was still very young, and he was raised by his widowed aunt, whom was a shrew of a woman. Strict and vapid, she home schooled him until the age of fifteen. During that time, she consistently punished Tarrigan for any sort of boyish behavior, insisting on heavy curriculum and book learning. It was due in part to her raising that Tarrigan was such a bright and shining star in the sciences.
At fifteen Tarrigan had tired of her strict rules and set off on his own. Making his way to the nearest college, he sat in on a physics class, only to be questioned and tested by the professor when noticed. Tarrigan answered all questions with remarkable knowledge and wit. The professor, astonished by the young man, took him under his wing. Not only did he personally vouch for Tarrigan’s early admittance, but the professor also covered the associated costs. Tarrigan was given his own private room in the dormitory, and allowed to eat at the cafeteria on the professor’s dime. It was seven years later when Tarrigan graduated with a Doctorate of Physics and Studies in Experimental Technologies.
Unimpressed with a Doctorate, Tarrigan went on to become a professor at the Research Institute for the Advancement of Mankind. This short tenure lasted only a single year, before he was given the position of an Augur of the RIAM. This was publicly acknowledged as having been done because of his vast and superior knowledge in his field. However, privately it was done because Tarrigan Krause was infamously difficult to work with and study under. Faculty and students alike despised the man for constantly looking down on them, and his unabashed verbal acknowledgment of this fact only added insult to injury. It did not help that there was never a man whom could be considered his peer.
Although disliking Krause, the RIAM’s Board of Administration came to the conclusion that the value he offered was too great to cast aside. They also acknowledged that, even outside the RIAM, he would be heading discoveries which would then be beyond their reach. By unanimous decision, it was decided to give him his own private research space, built off the existing wing dedicated to experimental studies, buried deep underground – for safety concerns.
During his time at the RIAM, Krause became loose friends with professor Collen Comstock. The two reportedly carried a singular relationship of criticism and admonishment. For whatever reason, professor Comstock was the only one able to somewhat get along with the man, and the two frequently met for drinks and cigars at a local pub. Overhearers of their conversation topics reported they discussed little else outside of scientific jargon and spiritual concepts.
In 2277 Augur Tarrigan Krause works as a sort of unofficial head of all science and development for Evtola Innovation. “Unofficial” being due to his inability to work with anyone, though his mind and aptitude granting him supreme authority on all matters scientific.
We first meet Augur Tarrigan Krause in 2270, during the Sarkessian Offensive. It is also here where Krause first met Laban.
