Sodality of Theorists

“ Whatever your allotment, you have heard, or have come to the same conclusion: this Universe is not as it is presented, and there must be more. ”

–The Cycles of Man

Barely standing higher than Dissidents, the Sodality is only just tolerated in Ascendancy society. Labeled as peddlers of conspiracy and other falsehoods by the One Earth Ascendancy, they research a mysterious power called “Pressure,” and other mysteries, mythos, histories, and languages.

Being acquainted with the Sodality of Theorists is not a badge of honor. Most Debtors would scoff at the notion, and to confess such a status would be plain foolish, except only for the most die-hard Theorist. Still, the Sodality has, undeniably, many bright minds associated with them. However, due to Ascendancy Prejudice, those intelligent people are relegated to spending their time at the RIAM, the Repository, or in seclusion.

Note from the Office of the Perpetual Questioning:

There are only three known corpos that will accept members of the Sodality: Obelisk, N. Ciber Arms, and Evtola Innovation.

  • Obelisk is suspected to contract with the Sodality due to the intelligence and innovative ideas of its members.
  • N. Ciber Arms works closely with the Sodality because Nathan Ciber, himself, is a strange man and a Theorist.
  • Many of Evtola Innovation’s areas of research bring them into close proximity with Theorist ideals.

The Sodality & the Theorist

“A plane is hidden by the simple addition of a ‘t’.” – J.D.755

The Sodality is the body of members collectively called “Theorists.” Theorists are a cryptic and eclectic group of independent individuals. Often speaking in riddles, and making references which only other members of the Sodality could comprehend, they are known to be difficult to converse with. The pattern of a conversation may tend to jump around, as their wild theories and thoughts are expounded upon the exact moment they enter the Theorist’s mind. An exception to this is their publicly appointed ambassador, Shem Oceansen, whom is uncharacteristically coherent and concise – which is probably the reason they chose him.

History of the Sodality

It is unknown how or when the Sodality of Theorists were formed, but there are rumors that their foundation has its roots either stemming from, or shooting out to form, the organized terrorist network known as the Dissidents.

What is known, is that the Sodality retains its legitimacy due to support from three large Corpos, as well as unknown benefactors operating from within the Ascendancy, itself. The Oculus has so far been unsuccessful in attempts to reveal these covert supporters.

Being one of the few groups allowed to exist while rumored to oppose the OEA, the Sodality is permitted no outreach on Archlight station. Instead, they maintain a sizable, privately funded library and research station called the Repository, which is just outside Archlight’s aether grid.

The Golden Law

Their doctrine consists of something called Dictates and Absolutes.

Dictates are the laws and declarations of man and all beings. What that amounts to, is that anything man has done is merely a Dictate, temporary. The Sodality considers emotion, desire, and thought to be Dictates. That is, insofar as man is subject to them.

Absolutes are truth, unchanging. Absolutes include the Laws of the Universe, such as physics, aether, magnetism, light, sound, and their Living Lord.

All these things are included in what they call the “Golden Law,” whose foundation is the simple practice of “do no harm.”

The Cycles of Man

The Sodality is in possession of a book called,“Exhortation to the Remnant People Regarding the Cycles of Man.” Its author and date of authorship are unknown. However, many Seekers have come to a concensus that it was written sometime before the Great Breaking. This book was banned by the OEA, and any in possession of it is to be reported for harboring seditious material.

Reminder: by Codefied Law of the Ascendancy, harboring of seditious material is a crime punishable by no less than indentured servitude, or execution. All those harboring seditious material are encouraged to turn themselves in at their nearest Ascendancy Authority.

Chief Seeker’s Note:

As much as it pains me to admit it, the Sodality are a weighty annoyance to both the Seekers of the Ascendancy, and the Oculus. Even those loathsome Pursuers have reported interference from them. It is this Seeker’s opinion that to label them a cult would do well, considering their foolish notions of a ‘Living Lord’ – which, I suppose, is their god. Such nonsense aside, this Sodality is to be watched carefully.
